Paying Attention
As Mindful Schools defines it, "Mindfulness is paying attention to our experience in a way that allows us to respond rather than react. It is the mental faculty of purposefully bringing awareness to one's experience. Mindfulness can be applied to sensory experience, thoughts, and emotions by using sustained attention and noticing our experience without reacting."Mindfulness creates space between stimulus and reaction. Mindfulness changes impulsive reactions to thoughtful responses. With daily practice, thoughtful response becomes the brain's instinct, instead of an impulsive reaction based in emotion.
