To me, this is Sufi poet Rumi's way of instructing us how to arrive mentally, before we make a choice....any choice.
Clearing the mind state of strong emotion before problem solving and decision making = intuitive action and mindful action, avoiding impulsive reactions.
Kind of like clearing the virus or bugs off of a hard drive before continuing our data entry.
